Erno (Ernst) Abonyi was born in Budapest in 1888 and studied at the Budapest Academy under K. Ferenczy, at the artists' colony Nagybanya and later in Munich under S. Hollogy and in Paris at the Academie Julian under J.P. Laurens, Steinlein and Matisse. He was active in Kolozsvar, Temesvar, Arad and Miscole.
