From 1825 he studied at the Academy of Munich. In those years, he was strongly influenced by works of Munich horse painter Albrecht Adam. In 1831, he went to Paris, then to Bretagne and Normandy, and probably traveled to Russia. In 1834, he returned to Munich. There, together with Dietrich Monten, he created the lithographic cycle (in sum 388 sheets) called "Das Deutsche Bundesheer in charakteristischen Gruppen nach der Natur gezeichnet". Further cycles capturing military subjects followed. Besides that, Eckert executed a number of small battle, marine and hunting oil paintings. His works can be viewed in various German museums. Our images nr.13-15 show several other works of H.A. Eckert that were offered at art auctions in the last years.
