In 1939 after annection of the West Ukrainian territory to Soviet Russia he was repressed by KGB and sent to concentration camp in Siberia, where he was kept until 1947. In 1947 Kurlikov's official artistic career started in Khotyn, where he worked as decorator and textile designer. From 1952 he was active in Chernivtsi Art Fund. The artist regularly took part in town, regional, republican and all-Union (USSR) exhibitions, received numerous awards. Many of his works have been acquired by museum and private collections.
