Even if already discounted! # 36885 Eugene Rivaud (fl. 1848/53) "The easing", oil on panel, ca. 1850 1800 EUR - 25% DISCOUNT = 1350,00 EUR This work was painted in the mid-19th century by well-known French genre artist (see below). It is a small piquant painting of a young woman who is squatting down to relieve herself in the thickets. According to the personal dedication on verso, it was presented by certain Dr. O. Foucher to his youth (student time?) friend, Dr. Desportes. The painting, as it was often the case with such works of art, was deeply buried inside Dr. Desportes' secretaire - a common practice for men of that time who were not keen on upsetting their spouses. The author of this erotic painting was Eugene Rivaud. He was a pupil of Anatole Dauvergne and Henri Felix Phillipoteaux. Between 1848-1853 he exhibited portraits and genre scenes at the Salon de Paris. Our images nr.9-10 show two other works of Rivaud that were offered at international art auction market in the last years.
