"Scene on a Village Street" - pencil and grey wash drawing traditionally attributed in an old Viennese collection to the well-known German romantical artist Johann Christian Klengel (1751-1824).

Johann Christian Klengel (1751 in Kesselsdorf - 1824 Dresden ) was a German etcher and painter.
Klengel attended the drawing school in Dresden. His teacher was Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich . In 1790 he went to Italy and in 1802 became a professor at the Dresden Art Academy . One of his students was Karl Gottfried Traugott Faber . He found his final resting place in the Eliasfriedhof in Dresden.
He painted ideal landscapes and idyllic compositions, usually in morning or evening light. In 1812 he published a collection of twelve folio sheets for landscape artists under the title "Principes de dessins pour les paysages" and in 1824 a similar number of presentation sheets, now known under the title "Études de paysages".
