Julius Christian Rehder was born in Flensburg in 1861. He studied under Ferdinand Keller in Karlsruhe and under A.v.Werner in Berlin. His works are displayed in various museums of Germany.

** An extensive collection of letters comes together with this painting "Maria Theresia Princess of Bourbon-Sicily, née Heir to the Throne Hohenzollern". As subject of all these letters is this portrait commissioned in 1890. Part of the letters are written by the Princess herself. Maria Theresia Princess of Bourbon-Sicily was born Heir to the Throne Hohenzollern in 1867 and died in 1909. She was 23 while posing for this portrait. One of her letters to the artist she has signed: "Your pupil Maria Theresia". This points to a close relationship between the Princess and the artist. * Literature: Boetticher, Nr.3
