It is a very qualitative interior drawing executed in 1847 in by well-known Italo-Russian artist, Ludvig Osipovich (Luigi) Premazzi. As known, in 1847 the latter worked for Princess Elizaveta Petrovna Saltykova (1802-1863), executing drawings with interiors of numerous rooms in her "dacha" by St.Petersburg (CLICK HERE)

The artist was born in 1814 in Milan, where he later graduated from Accademia Brera (his teacher was well-known cityscape artist and state designer Giovanni Migliara). Probably in 1839 Premazzi moved to Russia, where in 1840s he worked as a drawing teacher in various St. Petersburg aristocratic families, including the family of Princess I. Gagarina. Soon the Tsar's family became aware of his talent and commissioned him with a series of watercolors depicting fortification lines of the naval fortress Kronstadt. He became a popular court artist, gaining recognition among professionals (in 1851, for one of his watercolors, he received a rank of "nominated to academician" and junior teacher of St. Petersburg Academy). In 1854, similarly for a watercolor, he became a full academician. Premazzi regularly participated in academic exhibitions. In 1861 he was made a professor - a status that allowed him to teach in various institutes (among others: Female Pavlovski Institute, 1865-1867; Central School of Technical Drawing, founded by Baron A. L. Shtiglitz, 1878-1880). He was also one of the founders of the "Society of Russian Watercolor Artists" (1880). Participations in numerous art exhibitions in Russia and abroad brought him a number of awards.
He was also a well-known landscapist, who undertook frequent journeys in Russia and visited Finland, Caucasus, Crimea, Ukraine. He also traveled abroad to Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey. Premazzi spent his last years in Constantinople, where he died in 1891 (his body was brought to St. Petersburg and was buried there).

Our additional images show several other works of L. Premazzi that were offered at art auction market in the last years.
