Carl Reichert was born in 1836 in Vienna as a son of the portrait and animalist painter Heinrich Reichert. He studied at the Drawing Academy in Graz under J.Tunner, E.Chr.Moser and J.Kuwasseg, lived in Munich for a short time, then continued his education in Rome under Ludwig Johann Passini and Anton Romako. Between 1869 and 1910 the artist lived in Vienna and then moved to Graz, where he died in 1918. His animalist paintings depicting dogs, cats and horses are especially popular.
