Charles Bestland was born in April of 1763, presumably in London and died in that city, about 1837. He studied from 1789 at the London Royal Academy and specialised himself in miniature portraits which demonstrate influence of Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough and Wheatley. Besides that he copied genre scenes of other artists in oil and watercolor. Works of his can be seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, in Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and other important public collections.
