This miniature portrait was painted in ca. 1750 (the form of the sitter's wig speaks for this date). The sitter (he is depicted here as a hunter, wearing a so-called "Hungarian" costume) is none other than Prince Carl Alexander of Lorraine (1712-1780), from 1740 Austrian Field Marshal (see the corresponding warlord's helmet and marshal's baton on the right) and (still) Commander (from 1761 - Grand Master) of Teutonic Order (see his neck and breast crosses).
