Chalon was born in London about 1800 and died in 1867. She was a daughter of animalist Henry Barnard Chalon whose wife was the sister of well-known artist James Ward. She was taught by her father and had an aptitude for music. She worked in London as a miniaturist and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institute, etc.. Between 1819 and 1840 her exhibited works were signed with her maiden name. In 1841 she married Mr. Henry Moseley where after she signed with her married name. In ca. 1823 she became "portrait paintress" to the Duke of York. Her work was of very high quality and had some affinity to that of Sir W.C.
