Acquired through a Stockholm antique trade, it is a very fine miniature portrait of a young Austrian hussar officer from the period between the two Napoleonic Austrian campaigns (1805-1809). His regimental colors and his "feldbinde" (shoulder scarf) say he is adjutant of the 3rd Hussar Regiment of the Austrian army. In the aforementioned period the name of the regiment's adjutant was Anton Revay. Unfortunately we could not find any biographical information about this man. It is possible that he was son (nephew?) of the famous (and eponymous!) Austrian hussar officer who died in 1806 with the rank of major general, Baron Anton Revay. It is also possible that he was killed in 1809 - since from that year onwards the 3rd Regiment had another adjutant, a certain Gottlieb Schobel.
