Executed in the 1710s it is an important miniature portrait of famous French warlord, Marshal Adrien-Maurice duc de Noailles (1678-1766; see our images nr. 7-10 with his extensive biography and other known portraits). He is depicted wearing armour with a blue shoulder sash of the French Order of Holy Spirit, standing by his commander's tent.
