Executed in 1839, during the artist's stay in London, it is a very typical work of well-known, 19th century miniaturist, Johann Conrad Hamburger.
Johann Conrad Hamburger (1809 Frankurt on Maine - 1871 Amsterdam) was a very well-known miniaturist, graphic artist and lithographer. He studied at the Staedel Institute in his native town and then moved to London where he exhibited miniatures in 1830-1835 at the Royal Academy. In 1834 the artist became the "Portrait Painter in Water Colours to His Majesty" (William IV). He moved to Amsterdam in 1836 where he was regularly presenting works in exhibitions until the 1860s.
