William Naish was born in ca. 1767, in Axbridge, Somerset. He entered the Royal Academy Schools (London) on 28 November 1788, aged 21. He worked in London; had a large practice which included many of the theatrical profession. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1786-1800. For a time he was in Bristol. He is said to have died at his house in Leicester Square, late 1800. Examples of his works are in Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
