This miniature, showing a dressed according to fashion of mid-1810s lady bears on verso the old inscription "Gräfin Zichy". As our comparison image nr. 7 with the (executed in 1826) engraved portrait of Countess Franziska von Colloredo, married Countess Zichy convincingly demonstrates we are dealing in our case with a portrait of the same woman (only ca. 10 years younger!) - Franziska Countess Zichy-Vasonkeö, nee Countess von Colloredo (1783-1835; see image nr. 8 with genealogical information).

Clearly signed "Ad.Suchy" it is another work of well-known Vienna miniaturist Adalbert Suchy IN OUR POSSESSION. This artist had among his clientele numerous representatives of Czech and Slovakian aristocracy (among others also members of Zichy family). With a great possibility he portrayed Countess Franziska at estate Nagylang by Pressburg (now Hungary) which belonged to her husband; the latter hosted a castle and greatest in Hungary private stud farm (see our image nr.10).

Adalbert Suchy (ca. 1783 Klattau, Bohemia - 1849 Vienna) was a son of a carpenter. In 1802 he became a student of the Academy of Vienna, where he studied under Schmutzer, and where he exhibited between 1820 and 1840. Suchy chiefly painted miniatures and portraits in watercolor, yet, sometimes, he also did pastels and portraits in oils. He soon acquired success and painted a considerable number of personages of the court and aristorcracy, amongst them the Emperors of Austria Franz I and Ferdinand, as well as members of their families. Several of Suchy's works are in the Historisches Museum der Stadt Wien (Wien-Museum). In the past, Suchy's miniatures belonged to the many important Viennese and Czech collections.
