On view here is a portrait of an elderly gentleman with a sash and breast star of the highest Russian award - Order od St.Andrew The First-Called.
The sitter wears a dress-coat of either a courtier or a governor (and vice-governor), or a representative of one of following Russian government offices (so the currently best Moscow specialist in Russian military and civile uniforms of 19th century, Sergei A. Popov): Imperial Court Office, Office of Internal Affairs, State Chancery, Post Office, Mariinski Office, Office of State Horse-Breeding.
This coat and especially bow-tie say the portait was made in 1830/50s
Profound search through list of awardees of St. Andrew The First-Called in period of reigns of Nicolas I and Alexander II (CLICK HERE) was successful - we found this man.
His name - Fedor Petzovich Opochinin (1779-1852). From 1838 he was head of "Hofmeister" Bureau (Lord Sreward Bureau - section of Imperial Court Office (sic! sitter's dress-coat!)). His Order of St.Andrew The First-Called he obtained on 5th December 1850. In April-June of the next year he was a provisional head of "Pridvornaya Kontora" (Court Bureau (also a section of Imperial Court Office)),
On this portrait he is depicted in 1851/52. For another portrait showing him in the same age and for his extensivbe biography see our images nr.7-9.
We add that the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin was good acquainted with F. P. Opochinin and his family (see our image nr.10).
