Francois-Joseph Bourgoin was born in Bourgogne (Burgundy) and, according to the latest information (see our additional image with clips from Saur), was mentioned between 1754 and 1786. Probably he was the father of Francois Jules Bourgoin (fl. 1796-1812 in Paris). First mention of 1754 refers to him as a student of Accademia di S. Luca in Rome, where he took part in Concorsi Clementi, and where he was probably a teacher at a later time. In 1760-1786 he was mentioned in Paris as a "peintre des menus plaisirs". He mainly painted on enamel but also produced miniatures on ivory (Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard).
