Jerome-Martin Langlois was born on 11 March 1779 in Paris and died there on 28 December 1838. After initial study with his father, miniaturist Jerome Langlois, he visited Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, won "Prix de Rome" and spent seven years in Rome, between 1809/15 (which lets us suppose that the depicted lady lived in that city). It is known that he was also pupil of Jacques Louis David and probably co-laborator of miniaturist Jean-Urbain Guerin.
