Indistincly monogrammed - "...B.A." - this miniature on ivory of superior quality, executed in ca. 1790 (according to sitter's dress and hairstyle) and strongly resembling works of famous Vienna Neoclassical portraitist Fueger is a very important (and one of the earliest ones) creation of Fueger's favorite pupil, miniaturist Johann Baptist Anker.

Johann Baptist Anker (or Ancker) was born in 1760 in Ettenheim by Strasbourg and died after 1824. From 1780 he lived in Vienna, studying at the Vienna Academy under Friedrich Heinrich Fueger, who influenced him a great deal. There are only few of his miniatures (especially on ivory) that are known. Some of them belong to important museum collections: Vienna Museum of Applied Arts, Viennese "Albertina", etc.
