Good quality miniature portrait of an officer of the Austrian 3rd (see the number "3" on his buttons) Jaeger-Battalion ("Boehmisches") stationed in 1841 in Slovenian town Neustadtl, not far from Klagenfurt - the place of artist's residence at that time.

Heinrich Ferstler was born in Vienna around the year 1800 as a son of the mathematician and drawing teacher Johann Ferstler who was also known as a portrait miniaturist. In 1817 he entered the Vienna Academy and from 1824 to 1828 participated in the academical exhibitions. Later he became professor of the Drawing School in Klagenfurt (capital of the Austrian province Carinthia). In 1836 Ferstler also lived in Munich.
