This is a work by the well known Silesian miniaturist Armand G. Zausig, very rare to find in the current antique market. Signed and dated "Zausig (18)26" it was executed in Dresden where the artist studied (since 1825) at the Academy of Fine Arts.

Armand G. Zausig was born 24th March 1804 in Heidchen near Trachtenberg (the Prussian Lower Silesia, now Zmirod, Poland). He studied in Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland) under Schall König and Siegert and from 1825 at the Dresden Academy. He specialised himself on portraits in oil, miniatures on ivory, landscapes and still lifes.
In 1824 he returned to Dresden where he became a miniaturist of distinction. In 1828 he exhibited in Breslau a portrait of Napoleon I (after Augustin) and "Jesus" (after Carlo Dolci); both works executed still in Dresden.
In the autumn of 1827 he went to Rome where he painted numerous landscapes and returned in 1829. He died in Breslau on 22nd January 1847 in poverty after being forced to earn his living during the last years of his life as a decorator of porcelain.
Schidlof names him "a skilful miniaturist, whose works are expressive and very well painted".
