Two leading specialists on old Russian military uniforms - Sergei Popov and Oleg Leonov (both in Moscow) informed us that the sitter of presented here miniature portrait wears an uniform of a senior (due to his high award) officer (major or lieutenant-colonel or even colonel) from one of four following musketeer regiments of Russian Army: Vladimirski, Uglitski, Velikolutski, Sophyiski (if the buttons are yellow it would be one of three latter regiments; uniform of Vladimirski Musketeer Regiment had white buttons). Besides that the sitter is decorated with neck cross of Russian Order of St.Anna of 2nd class with diamonds. Due to shortened pig-tail and absence of ringlets he posed for this portrait in 1801, already at the beginning of Alexander I's reign.

As usual we turned to the standard reference source - the list of bearers of St.Anna of 2nd class published in 1828 (see our image nr.12).
In 1801, between 15th September and 13th December were awarded ten persons. Due to young visual age of our officer (he looks for 20/25) only one of them comes in question: Dmitri Alekseevich Bezobrazov. Date of his birth remains unknown. Nevertheless we found several interesting facts which allow to believe that in 1801 he was still a young man. His first child, son Sergej Dmitievich Bezobrazov (future adjutant of Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich and (since 1834) fliegel-adjutant of Tsar Nikolai I) was born exactly in 1801, We meet Dmitri Alekseevich in 1823 as "predvoditel' dvoryanstva" (marshal of nobility) in town Kovrov, Vladimirskaya Gubernia. It is interesting to note that neighbouring town Alexandrov (also Vladimirskaya Gubernia) was a station of aforementioned Vladimirski Musketeer (since 1811 Infantry) Regiment (we believe the sitter of our miniature wears yet uniform of this regiment - the buttons' color seems be regenerated white). Very possibly the sitter ordered this portrait immediately after awarding St.Anna, what means this miniature was executed in December of 1801 (according to chronological estimate of Moscow experts).

The second possible (and very plausible!) candidate was found in list of awardees of 1800. In that year, between 2nd January and 23 February were awarded eight persons. Again - only one of them comes in question: Fedor Petrovich Gur'ev. In 1801 the latter was 23 (!) years old. Moreover, he was then already a senior military officer (in 1812, being retired colonel, he became Vice-Governor of Kazanskaya Gubernia and remained in this function next two years). He died in 1820s, being last time mentioned in 1823 (see state calendar "Mesiatseslov"). Unfortunatelly nothing was to find about his military career (name of the regiment etc.).
