A wonderful symbolist work of well-known German turn of the 20th century artist, Hermann de Bruycker.
Hermann de Bruycker was born on 16th December 1858 in Ottensen/Hamburg as a son of an artist. After initial study with his father he studied at the academies of Hanover (under Friedrich Kaulbach) and Munich (under Franz Defregger). In 1884/86 he lived in Berlin, then came back to Hamburg where he obtained a position as a teacher at the local School of Applied Arts; in 1891 he changed to Sternschen Art School in the same city (later he became its director).
