This genre painting was executed by well-known Viennese artist Johann Nepomuk Schoedlberger during his 1832 stay in Naples.
Austrian genre and landscape painter Johann Nepomuk Schoedlberger was born in Vienna in 1779 and died in that city in 1853. He spent the years 1817/18 in Italy. Friend of Anton Petters, he was influenced by Claude Lorrain and Poussin. In 1821 the artist made a large painting "Traunfall bei Gmunden" for Franz I of Austria. Also Ludwig I of Bavaria and the Grand Duke of Weimar were patrons that supported his talent. From 1835 on he was a member of Vienna Academy. His paintings are represented in various museums of Austria.
