Josef Mukarovsky (1851 Mainz - 1921 Klatovy, Czech Republic) studied between 1867 and 1872 and then again between 1874 and 1875 at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts under Trenkwald. He specialized in illustration art and was a regular contributor to Prague magazine "Svetozor". In the late 19th century, he settled in Munich, where he became a contributor to the city's satirical magazine "Meggendorfer Blätter". After spending the following thirty-five years in Munich, he returned to Prague in 1914.
