This painting shows all stylistic criteria of works of the well know Scottish artist Sir Francis Grant (1803, Kilgraston, Perthshire - 1878 Melton Mowbray). As a portraitist he became very known for his in 1840 painted equestrian portrait of Queen Victoria and since then was a favorite portrait painter of the British high society. In 1842 he became Associate and in 1851 a full member of the Royal Academy (from 1866 its President). He exhibited regularly between 1834 and 1878.
Condition: In good condition, lined, under ultra violet: several insignificant touch-ups in the background area, two minor touch-ups on chin, framed.
