According to Mme Lemoine-Bouchard Pierre Etienne Le Gay was born in ca. 1758 in Meaux (ca. 40km from Paris) and died after 1815. In June 1773 he entered the Parisian Academy Royale as "P.(eintre) de Meaux age de 17 ans, protegé de M(onsieur) Doyen". In 1804 he is mentioned as a pupil of Jean-Baptist Jacques Augustin.
