Antoine-Nicolas-Martial Gobert (called Martial Gobert) was born in ca 1793 in Paris and died in the same city in 1860. He was a pupil of the painter Jean-Jacques Champin and miniaturist Louis-Francois Aubry. Later, he became a professor of drawing at the "College Henri IV et Saint-Barbe" in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1824 to 1850. His son Alfred Gobert also became an artist (he was an enamellist and porcelain painter).
