This work was produced at the Berlin Royal Porcelain Manufactory (KPM; for a similar piece, see our web #31791). This biscuit porcelain bas-relief was made in the so-called "Wedgwood technique" after the model of well-known Berlin court medalist, Daniel Loss (1735-1819; for his biography, see our image nr.6).
The same model by Loss was used in 1817 as the prototype for a much smaller (4,5cm in diameter), silver memorial medal (see our image nr.5), which was instituted to commemorate 50 years of civil service of the sitter in this bas-relief portrait - then almost 69 year old Director of Prussian Royal Post, Johann Friedrich von Seegenbarth (for his biography, see our images nr.7-8).
