This, superior quality miniature on ivory was recognized by our friend, world's best specialist in portrait miniatures Dr. Bodo Hofstetter as a typical work of well-known French, turn of 19th century portrait min iaturist Jean-Baptiste Joseph Le Tellier (our comparison images nr.10-18 also confirm latter's authorship).
Jean Baptiste Joseph Le Tellier (1759 Paris - after 1812 Paris) worked in Paris as a painter of miniatures on ivory and enamel. He was "Peintre des Menus-Plaisirs", for which he delivered five portraits of Marie-Antoinette. Schidlof says further, "his works of this period were usually mounted on the boxes of Drais & Gaillard (sic!), and he obtained 15 Louis for the original and 10 Louis for each replica". He exhibited "a frame containing miniatures" at the 1793 Salon, and took part at 1812 Salon, showing several miniatures. Le Tellier was a friend of Jean-Baptiste-Jacques Augustin. In his good pieces he showed a first-class talent.
