A. Gandat was a French painter of the second half of the 18th century in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon a portrait of the painter Avril in 1779. Gandat lived in Italy for some years and in 1793 became member of the Paris "Commune des Arts". He admired the work of Rousseau and painted landscapes in the spirit of "Emile" and "Nouvelle Heloise".
