IMPORTANT DISCOVERY!!!

This, several times published (as a "portrait of anonymous actress") and since several years in our possession, superior quality, executed by Vienna artist Carl Joserf Alois Agricola watercolor turned recently out to be a very imporrtant (and earliest!) portrait of then 20-year-old and already celebrated Italian opera singer (soprano) Eugenia Tadolini, nee Savorani (1809-1872; see our images nr.13-17 with other portraits of her; for her extensive biography CLICK HERE).

In 1829 Eugenia performed in Florence then in Venice and Triest and from December in Parma, what means Agricola executed this portrait during his trip to one of these cities.

Carl Josef Alois Agricola (1779 Saeckingen/Baden - 1852 Vienna) was a very well-known Austrian historical, portrait and miniaturist painter. He was born in Germany, began studying in Karlsruhe, moved to Vienna in 1798 and studied at the Viennese Academy under the famous Fueger. Agricola became a very popular portrait miniature artist and also made many historical and allegorical paintings. Especially known are his paintings with little children, a few of them can be seen at the Austrian National Gallery "Belvedere".

Heckett of Pittsburgh, USA; see our first additional image with clips from catalogue of Sotheby Parke Bernet: "The Heckett Collection of Miniatures.
