This outstanding quality, large miniature which was executed by leading Austrian portraitist Carl Josef Alois Agricola in early 1810s (according to lady's dress and hairstyle) is the earliest known portrait of shortly before married Countess Caroline Hadik von Futak, nee Countess Fuenfkirchen (Fünfkirchen). Only known till today lithographic portrait (see our image nr.9) shows her 15/20 years later; without any doubt we see the same woman.
Carl Josef Alois Agricola (1779 Saeckingen/Baden - 1852 Vienna) was a very well-known Austrian historical, portrait and miniaturist painter. He was born in Germany, began studying in Karlsruhe, moved to Vienna in 1798 and studied at the Viennese Academy under the famous Fueger. Agricola became a very popular portrait miniature artist and also made many historical and allegorical paintings.
