We are dealing with executed in 1841, in Vienna miniature portrait of 30-year-old Countess Zoe (Caroline Zoe) von Wallmoden-Gimborn, nee Countess von Gruenne (see our image nr.8). She was born on 3 September 1810 at Castle Dobersberg in Lower Austria as daughter of Austrian Lieutenant Fieldmarshal (in 1809-1847 Grand Master of Archduke Carl's household, from 1827 General of Cavalry) Count Philipp Ferdinand Grünne de Pinchard (1762-1854; see our image nr.9) and his wife Rosaline Freiin (Baroness) von Felz. On 15 July 1833 she married in Vienna Austrian officer, later General of Cavalry Count Karl von Wallmoden-Gimborn (1792-1883; see our image nr.10). Their marriage was childlos. Zoe outlived her husband for 11 years and died in 1894, aged 84.
Still in 1836 she was awarded Austrian Ladies Order of Star Cross and title of "Palastdame" (lady-in-waiting)

Countess Zoe was also younger sister of our web # 40594 .

This superior quality miniature is a very important (in fact, one of the best we have ever come across at) work of well-known Viennese miniaturist of the 1st half of the 19th century, Robert Theer.

Robert Theer (1808 Johannisberg/Austrian Silezia - 1863 Vienna) was a well-known Viennese portraitist and lithographer of the early 19th century. He was born in a well-known family of artists, son of a gem cutter Joseph Theer, brother of the painters Adolf Theer and Albert Theer. In 1820 together with his family he moved to Vienna, where he studied at the Academy under Eduard Klieber. He was also trained by miniaturist Moritz Michael Daffinger. At the age of 16 years he opened his own studio and from 1828 till 1846 regularly showed his works at the annual academical exhibitions in Vienna. He soon became a very popular miniaturist of the Vienna high society and court.

Our images nr.12-13 show two of Robert Theers's works that were offered at the international art auction market in the last years.
