Alexandre Delatour (also DeLatour, de la Tour) was born in 1780 in Brussels, and died in 1858 in Schaerbeek. He began studies with his mother, painter Marie-Elisabeth Simon; then became a pupil of Louis-Marie Autissier; in 1802, travelled to Paris, where he became a pupil of famous Jean-Baptiste-Jacques Augustin (he was also a frequent guest at the latter's house).
