Our comparison images nr.7-10 convincingly prove that we are dealing here with a typical work of well-known French miniaturist Jacques Delaplace, who was active at the turn of the 19th century.

According to biographical information provided by Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard (see our additional image), Jacques-Louis-Antoine Delaplace was born in 1767, in Vernon, and died after 1832. Both Benezit and late Schidlof refer to him as pupil of Chatelain and A. Renou. Nonetheless, Lemoine-Bouchard says that from 1785 he studied under M. Barthelemy at the "Ecole de l'Academie royale" in Paris.
He debuted at a Paris exhibition of 1795, showing a "Portrait d'homme" and participated in other Parisian exhibitions until 1832. In his late period he was strongly influenced by works of Louis-Francois Aubry.
