Set into original ormolu easel-frame (produced by famous Parisian framemaker Alphonse Giroux - see his atelier mark on verso), it is a high quality miniature on ivory with portrait of a little girl. The sitter is shown in a white gown with blue straps tied in bows. The miniature is signed and according to our friend, world's best specialist in portrait miniatures Dr. Bodo Hofstetter it is an extremely rare on current antique market work of French female artist Mlle (sic!) E. Binet de Quehelec. The latter showed one pastel portrait at Salon de Paris of 1845. She is surely ident with Mme (sic!) E. Binet de Quehelec whose religious paintings are to see in several French churches (see our image nr.8).
Moreover, her full name was Elisa Pauline Binet de Quehelec. She was born in 1808 in Paris as a daughter of a mathematician and from 1808 teacher at the Parisian Ecole Politechnique, Paul Rene Binet (1779-1858; older brother of celebrated mathematician Jacques Philippe Marie Binet)) and his wife Marie Jeanne Perrine Denise Jehanne de Quehelec (1784-?). She died in Paris, in ca.1883 (see our images nr.9-10).
