Willem Jilts Pol (1905 Leek/Groningen - 1988) was a well listed Dutch 20th century artist. He lived and worked in Paris until 1930 and then in Wassenaar (Germany). Before the WWII he married Poppet John, daughter of the painter Augustus John (a pivotal figure in the world of "Bohemian" culture and fashion), and the couple settled in Indonesia, where in 1940 their daughter Talitha was born. With the Japanese entering Java, the artist found himself in one war prisoner camp, and his wife and daughter - in another. After the war both he and his wife went their own ways.
