This very qualitative (octagonal) portrait depicts a young lady dressed and hairstyled according to fashion of the turn of the 19th century. With nearly 100% certainty, it was executed by its author - well-known French miniaturist Charles-Pierre Cior - in St. Petersburg, where the latter was staying in the aforementioned period (as it is known, he was working there for the Russian court and high aristocracy).
The minaiture is shaped as an octagon - a form typical for Russian miniatures of that period (note additionally that its frame is made of precious Karelian birch timber).

Pierre Charles Cior (1769 Paris - ca. 1840 Paris) was a pupil of Bazil. At the Salon of 1796 he exhibited a frame containing several miniatures, and, in 1799, two other miniatures. It was thirty two years later in 1831 that Cior again participated at the Salon, making his final reappearance in 1838. The artist travelled a lot throughout his career. The details of his itineraries are unknown, yet it is known that he was appointed a Painter in Miniature to the King of Spain, and that he also worked quite a lot at the Russian Court, where, among others, he did the portraits of the Emperor Paul I of Russia and his wife, of Prince Kourakin and Princess Poniatowska. He also painted Prince Eszterhazy, the Queen of Holland, the Duke of Luxemburg, Louis XVIII and numerous other personalities.
