Francis Cotes (1726-1770) "Portrait of a British General", high quality pastel!!, 1760s
Famous English artist Francis Cotes (ca 1725 London - 1770 ibidem) made his debut in the Society of Artists in 1760-61 with various pastel portraits and a few old paintings. He was one of the founders of the Royal Academy and exhibited there regularly, showing numerous portraits. Cotes' contemporary William Hogarth preferred him even to the great master Reynolds. Works of Cotes are displayed in the National Gallery London, in Victoria and Albert Museum, in the Gallery of the Royal Academy, in British Museum and in major museums worldwide.
