Walther Guenther Julian Witting (1864 Dresden - 1940 ibid.) was a well-known German painter, graphic and arts and crafts artist. He studied from 1883 at the Dresdener Academy (under L. Pohle and Fr. Preller the Younger), lived then two years in Weimar where he was a pupil of M. Thedy. In 1890 Witting was awarded in London (exhibition at the Crystal Palace) with the Great Silver Medal. After Weimar he lived and taught in Wiesbaden, then in Paris (1891), traveled to France, Belgium, Holland and Italy and finally settled down in his native Dresden. Works by Witting can be seen in a few Dresdener museums and other German public collections.
