Considering its stylistic features and the old (partially erroneous) inscription on verso, this charming oil painting could indeed (and with high degree of certainty - for comparison, see our images nr.9-16) be an original work of one of great J.-B. Greuze's female pupils - Mlle Jeanne Philiberte Ledoux.
Mlle Jeanne Philiberte Ledoux (or Le Doux) was born in 1767 in Paris and died in 1840 in Belleville, Paris. She was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Greuze and exhibited at Salon de Paris (portraits in oils and miniatures) between 1793 and 1819. Schidlof writes that she was a good miniaturist, whose miniatures resemble that by Sicardi. Her subjects in oil portraits were generally in the manner of her teacher Greuze.
