On view here is a portrait of Elisabeth Tulloch, the 1st Duchess de Stacpoole and wife of Richard Fitzgeorge de Stacpoole 1st Duke de Stacpoole (1787-1848). She is depicted in park of her chateau in Montigny-Lencoup by Paris, which her husband acquired back in 1822.
While we do not know the date of her birth, we do know that she passed away on June 14, 1867.
Duchess de Stacpool was a daughter of Major Francis Tulloch from Tannachi, Morayshire, Scotland and his wife Margaret Simpson. She married in 1822. On February 21, 1826, her husband - Richard Fitzgeorge de Stacpoole - was made by Pope Leo XII the 1st Papal Duke Stacpoole. This position was in some way intended to reward him for his services rendered to the church (he spent 40,000 pounds to rebuild the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, repaired the main bridge over the River Tiber, etc. etc.). Besides that, in 1828, he was presented the Order of St. Gregory by the Pope.
Duchess de Stacpoole had eight children with her husband.
Due to this work's high quality of execution, it is safe to say that its author was a 1st-class French (presumably Parisian) artist of the mid-19th century.
