Jules Vernet (1792 Paris - 1843 ibidem) specialized in miniatures. He exhibited at the Salon of Paris from 1812 to 1843. The greater part of his clientele seems to have consisted of actors and actresses. His close relations, probably his brother and the latter's wife, whose portraits in watercolour Vernet showed at the Salon of 1840, were dramatic writers in Paris. In 1834 (sic!) he obtained a third class medal. Schidlof writes: "The works of Vernet are not all of the same value, but in the best works he almost succeeds in equalling Aubry. His technique moreover resembles the pupils of the latter."
