Louis Abel was born in Liancourt, department Oise. In 1792 we meet him already as working in Paris. Between 1800 and 1801 he lived in rue de Helder, Paris. It is known that he was a pupil of Jean-Urbain Guerin. Some of his works resemble those of his teacher so strongly that several unsigned works in the collection of Louvre were taken for works of Guerin for many years.
