David Le Clerc (1679 Bern - 1738 Frankfurt a. M.) was a son of medallist Gabriel Le Clerc of Rouen. He was a pupil of Joseph Werner in Bern. In 1698, he came to Frankfurt, where he was issued a bursary to travel from the Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Cassel to visit Paris and London. Afterwards, he worked for 31 years for this Prince. He painted miniatures on velllum (sic!) and enamel, as well as portraits, landscapes, and flowers in oil.
