Anne-Louis de Girodet-Trioson-Studio "Young Napoleonic officer", oil on canvas, 1808/14
As our images nr.10-18 demonstrate, we are dealing here with a work of one of the pupils of France's great, turn of the 19th-century artist, Anne-Louis de Girodet-Trioson (CLICK HERE).
Anne Louis de Girodet de Roucy Trioson (called Girodet-Trioson; ca. 1767 Montargis - 1824 Paris), at the age of 18, began studying in David's studio and soon became the favorite pupil of this grand master. After his first success in Parisian exhibitions, he moved to Italy in 1789 and lived for five years between Rome, Naples, Venice and Genua. In 1793, the artist showed his painting "Endymion" at the Salond de Paris, which brought him great fame. Girodet Trioson soon became one of the most popular historical painters of the French Empire with commissions from Napoleon himself.
