Christian Gottlieb Dolst (1740 Dresden - 1814 ibidem) began his studies under the painter Kirst in Dresden, then became a pupil of the royal miniaturist Johann Emanuel Goebel, whom he accompanied to Warsaw during the Seven Years War. After the end of the war he became a pensionary of the Dresden Academy. From 1771 onwards he was constantly travelling: Vienna, Prague, Berlin and finally St.Petersburg, where he received commissions from the Tsar court. 1788 he stablished himself definetively in Dresden and was appointed "Inspector" (Director) of the royal Kupferstich-Kabinett. Works of this artist can be seen in the Dresdner Galerie (a.o. a Portrait Miniature of Catherina the Great) and in other German museums.
