Georg Emanuel Opiz (1775 Prague - 1841 Leipzig) was a pupil of Casanova at the Dresdener Academy. He began his artistic career as a portrait painter (oil and miniature), came in 1801 to Vienna where he became very known for his scenes of folklife. In 1814 he moved to Paris, later to Heidelberg, Altenburg and finally in 1820 to Leipzig where he lived until his death in 1841.
